A molecule that reacts upon squeezing, a diamond formed in Earth’s mantle, and an amphipod living 10,000 meters beneath the ocean surface… What do they have in common?
On the fundamental level, each represents an example of how matters respond to high pressure. We seek to elucidate the microscopic mechanisms governing chemistry under these mechanically extreme conditions, and use the knowledge to create functional systems from efficient catalysts to sensitive detectors.
